Friends of Walthamstow School for Girls
Friend of WSFG
Tuesday 3 March 2020
6.00 p.m. in the LRC (Library)
We hope parents/carers and other members of the school community (teaching and support staff, governors and school leaders) will get involved as our plans progress to bring projects to life for the benefit of the whole school and wider community.
Further discussions are under way- if you'd like to find out more, please contact Lesley Winter by email: firstname.lastname@example.org and register your interest now.
We need people who enjoy organising events, publicity (including social media ) experts, local business people with useful contacts for sponsorship, and anyone with good ideas to raise money for special school projects.
We look forward to hearing from you!
The Friends Committee
It is with deep regret that we are writing to inform you that we have taken the difficult decision to disband the Alumnae Association after many years.
The Committee has found it increasingly difficult over recent years both to encourage new members to the Committee as well as increasing the membership to the Association. Subsequently this has resulted in fewer of us being able to organise events and even having to cancel events because of lack of attendees. This has had the effect of reducing the funds available to allow us to continue offering events to members and for sending out our Alumnae Newsletters.
However, we have approached the school to see if we could transition into a Friends group whereby parents/carers, current staff and students as well as past staff and students could organise social and fundraising events in the future. The current Alumnae Committee have expressed an interest in being involved in this but with the aim of handing over to current parents as they will have a vested interest in the school.
It is our intention to continue to conserve and update our extensive archives under the guidance of Oona Kelly, Learning Resource Centre Manager, as these will continue to be an excellent historical resource for current pupils as well as a source of research for the local community. Indeed, Oona instigated our popular Open House tours held every year as well as giving talks to the local community about our illustrious Alumnae, for which we are extremely grateful.
Our thanks also extend to Lesley Winter who has produced our Alumnae News magazine over many years keeping members updated with news of past and present pupils. This has involved many hours of work alongside her very busy job as Media Resources Officer, as well as being our Treasurer and being our main point of contact for the Alumnae Association.
We are uncertain now whether this new venture will be successful, but we feel this is the best way forward to support the school which we love. In effect, we have given ourselves a year to get this off the ground and have had initial meetings with parents who seem very enthusiastic and have come up with some ideas already to raise the profile of such a group as well as to raise funds for the school. Any donations received from Alumnae this year will be used for school projects.
We feel it is appropriate that we refund your membership for this year and thank you most sincerely for all your support.
