Dear Parents / Carers of Year 6 Students,

This will be the last email of the year to welcome you and your child to Walthamstow School for Girls in September.

We are very much looking forward to working with you and supporting your child to settle into the school next term.

Start of the Autumn Term 2022

The first day of the Autumn Term for new Year 7 students is Friday 2nd September 2022

Students are expected in FULL school uniform, with their school bag and pencil case.
They need to be in school by 10.30am.
Arrival will be from 10.15am and students will be directed to the MUGA gate to the right of the main school building.
Students will leave at 3.30pm
Families are asked to remain OUTSIDE the school gates if collecting their child at 3.30pm on 2/09/22
School lunch will be provided free of charge on this first day, but students are welcome to bring a packed lunch if they wish.

SQUID Payment System

Parents / Carers will be sent an e-mail / letter on the first day of term with details of how use the sQuid payment system
You will be required to log in and create a personal account.
The school uses the sQuid system to pay for meals, trips and also to give permission for trips and visits etc
Your child will be issued with a SMART card to pay for school meals at the start of term that will be linked to the sQuid system.
You will be required to "load" credit onto your child's SMART card online to enable them to access school meals.
The e-mail will tell you about the sQuid system and how to access information about your child's spending at school.

Letter from the Headteacher re Term Dates for 2022-23

Dear Parents and Carers

I wanted to write to you to ensure that you have all received some of our key messages about the start of term, calendar dates and INSET arrangements.

Arrangements for the Start of Term:

Thursday 1st September: INSET day

Friday 2nd September:

Year 7 students arrive at 10.30 and will leave at 3.30.
Years 8 – 11 arrive at 11.00 to collect timetables and are dismissed at 12.30. This is to allow time for year 7 students to familiarise themselves with the school and settle in.

INSET Days and staff training:

Here are the INSET days and staff training afternoons for next academic year:

INSET days:

Thursday 1st September; Monday 3rd October; Friday 10th February.

Early closures for staff training:

Tuesday 20/9; Monday 31/10; Thursday 19/1; Wednesday 1/3; Thursday 20/4; Monday 19/6. The early closures are in place of two INSET days.

We will have 6 x two-hour sessions, which equates to the 12 hours of two INSET days, meaning that no learning will be lost for students. School will therefore close at 1.30 for students, following their school lunch. The rationale behind this is to provide staff with long-term learning but during the school day when learning can be maximised. As you can imagine, this can be challenging for staff who have been teaching all day! This helps to support staff wellbeing but also ensures that we have meaningful professional learning which is student-focused and can be applied with students in the classroom, thereby enhancing engagement and progress.
