Ofsted – Walthamstow School for Girls is an outstanding school
Following the recommendations made from the Section 8 Ofsted inspection in February, the school was inspected by four inspectors, led by an HMI, on 13th-14th June, 2018. This was a Section 5 Inspection, which enabled the judgement to be changed.
We are delighted to inform you that the inspectors confirmed our judgement that the school is outstanding.
During February 2018, Walthamstow School for Girls was visited for one day by a team of Ofsted Inspectors who believed they saw sufficient outstanding practice to warrant a conversion in the school’s designation from a ‘good’ to an ‘outstanding’ school. In line with Ofsted regulations, they recommended a further inspection within a two year period. Schools are given a maximum of 24 hours’ notice of inspection.
In June, a larger inspection team visited the school for a more in depth, two day, inspection and their report will be published this week. Walthamstow School for Girls was judged to be outstanding in all areas.
In September last year the school was appointed a National Teaching School and the Headteacher became a National Leader of Education in order to share the good practice at the school with others across the country.
Performance tables have shown pupil progress and attainment at the school to be significantly above the national average in a range of subjects, including English, Mathematics and languages. Progress in English was is the top 2% of schools nationally for both 2016 and 2017.
Meryl Davies, Headteacher, said “We are proud to have our work recognised as outstanding. This is a huge achievement by and for the whole school community: staff, students, Governors, parents and carers and the Local Authority"
