Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between disadvantaged students and their peers by ensuring that the funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the students who need it most and that they achieve and attain in line with their peers.

The grant was introduced in 2011 and is allocated to schools based on the number of students on roll who are registered for free school meals, have been registered for free school meals within the last 6 years, or are children of service personnel.

An enhanced Pupil Premium Plus was introduced in April 2014 for Looked After Children, children adopted from care and children who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order.
