Start date: September 2020

Salary: £89,089 - £97,927 (L31 -35 Outer London, ISR Group 6) plus discretion to extend by 25% subject to STPCD requirements

Walthamstow School for Girls is an award-winning, ‘outstanding’ secondary school for 900 girls aged 11 to 16, with an excellent reputation locally and nationally.  Due to the retirement of Meryl Davies, the current Headteacher, governors are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to lead the school with moral purpose and an absolute commitment to providing the very best education for every student.

We are a heavily oversubscribed, non-selective maintained girls’ school in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, serving and celebrating our diverse and multicultural community.  The school has a strong focus on equalities and an inclusive approach to developing the potential of all of its students and staff. Our motto, ‘Neglect not the gift that is in thee’ is at the heart of the school’s ethos, as are our G.R.E.E.N values of Growth; Resilience; Energy; Empathy; and Newness.

This is a unique opportunity for a bold and dynamic individual who is passionate about girls’ education. The right candidate will have a proven track record as a Headteacher or a Deputy Headteacher, with the confidence to lead an outstanding and continuously improving school and a reflective approach to leadership and management.

We have dedicated and stable staff who are committed to ensuring that the girls receive a rich, broad education alongside many extra-curricular enrichment activities and experiences. This is a safe and supportive environment for all, with a strong culture of safeguarding.

This year, the school expanded its roll-out of one-to-one devices in the classroom as an integral part of the school’s curriculum and a means of extending our students’ learning opportunities. We believe this approach to learning and teaching will better prepare our students for their future lives and careers.

Walthamstow School for Girls became a Teaching and National Support School in July 2017, known as the Waltham Forest GREEN TSA, and collaborates closely with other secondary and teaching schools locally. The current Headteacher is a National Leader of Education and the Chair of Governors is a National Leader of Governance.

Ours is a learning community, committed to investing in the development of staff and governors as well as our students.  We are members of the pathfinder programme for the Framework for Ethical Leaders in Education and are accredited for Leadership through Moral Purpose and for Quality Assurance as part of the SSAT Framework for Exceptional Education

Located in Walthamstow village, close to Epping Forest, the School has a rich history dating back to 1890. Our facilities are located in a Grade II listed building together with an award-winning modern extension completed in 2010.
