Zanzibar African Adventure
Year 10 Students Volunteer at Kinuni School
In July 2018, fifteen students and two teachers went to Zanzibar, Tanzania. We volunteered in Kinuni School, teaching English, Maths, ICT, Science, Geography and Sports to primary school aged children (and sometimes we even taught the cute nursery children!). We also did renovation work and painted murals to brighten the school environment.
We encountered many challenges, one of which was the language barrier as the majority of the children had very limited English. However, this made every successful lesson even more rewarding.
One of the most memorable experiences we had during our time in Zanzibar was the welcome we got when we arrived at Kinuni School. We visited each class- room and we were greeted by the students and staff who had even prepared a song. It was very overwhelming, heartwarming and definitely unforgettable.
We’ve all learnt so much from this experience, got on so well as a group and now share some incredible memories. We want to thank Ms Philippou and Ms Desbenoit for giving us this once in a lifetime opportunity and making our African Adventure amazing.
We would also like to thank everyone who donated to any of our fundraising events, without your support this trip would not have been possible.
We are very grateful, The Zanzibar Team
