GCSE Success at Walthamstow School for Girls

Congratulations to our Year 11 students!

Year 11 students returned to WSFG this morning to collect their GCSE exam results, greeted by their Headteacher, Helen Marriott and her Senior Leadership Team, as well as many teachers who came to support.

The results were even stronger than in previous exam years, with 80% achieving 5 grades 9-4 including English and Maths. In addition to this success, 42% of entries from all subjects were awarded a 7-9 grade, an increase from 2019 when exams were last sat. Results for both English and Mathematics continue to be very strong, with 93% of students achieving a “good pass” or above in English and 82% of students achieving the same in Maths. English results were particularly strong at the school this year with 56% of students achieving a 7-9 grade.

There were a number of high achievers this year: Vanessa Petrova achieved 9 grade 9s. Vanessa commented that she is proud of her results but is also proud of her contributions to “the school community with clubs, steel pans and concerts”. Alba Robinson Pleguezuelo and Jacinta Tenev gained 8 grade 9s. Jacinta will attend the London Academy of Excellence in Tottenham and intends to study Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Geography. Jacinta advises future year 11s “to work hard, it will pay off”.

Helen Marriott, Headteacher commented, “We are very proud of the amazing results achieved by our students this year. These results demonstrate the commitment and hard work of our students and the dedication of their teachers, together with the support of their families. Today we celebrate not only the academic achievements but also the considerable academic progress and personal development made by all our students during their time at WSFG. I want to wish them the best of luck in the next step of their educational journey and I look forward to hearing about their bright futures”.
