WSFG students meet a local MP
Year 7 and Year 8 quiz policitian
Some of our students were lucky enough to be able to ask questions of Kate Osamor MP and listen to her speak in our Learning Resource Centre. Thank you to Ms Kelly and Ms Desbenoit for organising the visit.
Here is a review, written by one of our students.
Last week Year 7 and Year 8 were invited to attend a conference with local Labour M.P. for Edmonton, Kate Osamor. The conference took place in the Walthamstow School for Girls library, and its duration was around an hour long.
Once the students were seated, Kate introduced herself, mainly talking about being a community and helping one another. Straight after, she gave priority to the year 7’s questions and after, the year 8’s had their ‘fair share’.
The questions varied from political to personal and Kate answered them all to the best of her abilities. The conversations went back and forth in an informal manner, with her answers giving us an insight on local politics and how the community is involved. However, she didn’t explain what the Labour Party stood for, and how to deal with bullying at school (for those who don’t have older siblings to protect them).
It has been a delight to have met her, and I’m sure that she is an inspiration to all girls at WSFG. We would love to meet her again, as well as meeting other local MP’s, informing and inspiring us.
