Berlin Trip 2025: A Journey to Remember

"Ich bin Berliners!" - In October the Walthamstow School for Girls History department ran our first ever trip to Berlin. The trip was an unforgettable experience that left students inspired, reflective, and full of new memories.
From the moment we set off, excitement and curiosity filled the air — and by the end of the week, every student agreed that it had been one of the best experiences of their school years.
The trip was over four days visiting many key sites in Berlin that the students study on their GCSE course, including the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall and Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.
Students described the trip as both “an amazing learning opportunity” and “a beautiful experience” that helped them “develop great bonds with peers and teachers.” Between the conversations, games, and shared laughter, it was clear that this trip was about more than just sightseeing — it was about connection, understanding, and discovery.
Among the many highlights were the city’s remarkable museums. The Spy Museum proved a firm favourite, described as “so engaging and different,” allowing students to step into the world of espionage through interactive exhibits, laser mazes, and ingenious gadgets. It was, as one student put it, “not only enjoyable but eye-opening,” bringing history to life in a thrilling way.
The visit to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp offered a stark contrast — a deeply moving and powerful experience that reminded everyone of the importance of remembrance and education. Students reflected on how “every building and memorial carried a sense of indescribable grief,” making the lessons of the past truly resonate.
Beyond the history, there was plenty of fun: exploring the Christmas markets, shopping in Berlin’s bustling mall, bowling nights, and endless laughter back at the hotel. As one student summed it up: “I would definitely go back and do it all again — it was absolutely amazing.”
The Berlin trip wasn’t just about learning history; it was about living it — and creating memories that will stay with everyone for years to come.
We'd like to thank all the staff that made this trip possible, we love you guys!
