Exciting English Trips!

It’s been a busy month of trips in the English faculty!

Debate Competition

First, we’ve had our inaugural debate competition at South Hampstead High School.

19 fearless debaters from Years 7, 8, and 9 competed against members of 13 other schools across London. For many of them, this was their first competition and they held their own valiantly!

Watch this space for the continued successes from this group.

Jacinda Ardern Documentary & Meet and Greet Session

Next, 50 year 8 and 9 students had the opportunity to attend the pupil premiere screening of Prime Minister, a documentary following the journey of Jacinda Ardern as she navigated political and personal life during her time as New Zealand’s prime minister, at the Regent Street cinema in Oxford Circus (one of the oldest cinemas in London!).

Following the screening, Ms Ardern came on stage to field questions from the students. In fact, two of our very own, Fadimah and Imogen, were able to sit on stage with her to ask their questions.

A very engaging and exciting trip!

Life of Chuck Private Screening

Then our Year 10 film studies students attended a private screening of the film, Life of Chuck.

An interesting exploration of one man’s life, this film presents us with abundant material to discuss in our explorations of film-making and the decisions that directors and screenwriters face (and how they realise those decisions on the big screen).

Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge

Finally, the Jack Petchey Speak Out challenge regional competition was this week.

Our representative was year 10 student, Hafsah. She competed against students from twelve other schools in the borough.

Her speech, From Ability to Awareness, drew a spotlight on an expanded realisation of inclusion and thinking about ability. She was professional, polished and poised and stood out amongst the field.

Huge congratulations to her for all of her hard work!
