Year 11 Visit to Tate Modern

Art & Textile students support their learning

Year 11 Art and Textiles educational visit to the Tate Modern

On Tuesday, 93 year 11 art and textiles students had the opportunity to visit the Tate Modern.  This is what some of the students they had to say about the day

I had lots of fun and saw lots of art. It was very helpful for my ESA and has inspired me for my final outcome.  I would recommend a visit to the Tate Modern to anyone studying art.

It was a very enjoyable day and we got to see a lot of very interesting art which will be very useful for my ESA.  The Tate is such a cool gallery and amazing for trips.

The trip to the Tate Modern Art Museum was incredibly inspiring for my ESA project, which explores the theme of “Narrative”. The museum was filled with a diverse collection of contemporary art that challenged conventions and offered fresh ideas and perspectives, all of which had a significant impact on my creative process. From the moment we arrived, we were drawn to the centrepiece in the Turbine Hall, a monumental artwork that seemed to invite endless interpretation. For me, the piece evoked the haunting image of hanging souls, creating a powerful and emotional narrative. This personal response to the artwork made me reflect on how stories can be told in abstract and unconventional ways, encouraging me to think more deeply about how I can convey narrative through my own work. The visit to the Tate Modern also gave me the chance to exercise and refine my analytical skills. Engaging with thought-provoking pieces allowed me to deconstruct the layers of meaning, symbolism, and technique within the art. This process has not only broadened my understanding of narrative but has also inspired me to incorporate current ideas and experimental approaches into my ESA project.

As always, the students were a credit to Walthamstow School for Girls. I am really looking forward to seeing the gallery pages in their sketchbooks and discovering how the visit to the Tate has inspired their ESA projects.
