Year 10 French Trip to the BFI

Exploring themes of Identity & Belonging
Bonjour!
On Friday 7th February, Year 10 French students enjoyed an exciting trip to the British Film Institute (BFI) in Central London. The theme for the day was "Identity and Belonging," which tied in perfectly with their French GCSE curriculum.
The day began with a screening of several short French-speaking films that explored different aspects of identity. In the afternoon, students watched Swagger, a compelling film-documentary that follows teenagers from diverse backgrounds living in the outskirts of Paris. This film offered a unique insight into the lives of young people grappling with issues of identity, belonging, and social challenges, sparking thought-provoking discussions among the students.
This trip was a wonderful opportunity for students to engage with the French language and culture while exploring meaningful themes that are both relevant to their studies and their lives. It was an enriching day for all!

It was a really fun experience, being able to use what I've learnt in lessons and apply it into an interesting and interactive way of learning. The short films, as well as the film we watched were really good and I would love to have a similar trip in the future. It was an amazing experience!

I really enjoyed the unique experience this trip provided. I feel as if it helped me truly immerse myself in French culture, something I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. As well as introducing us to French culture, it provided useful insight into customs of French Speaking countries that aren't as well known. The whole experience was very interactive and enjoyable too and made for a nice day trip!
