Year 10 Geography Field Trip

Shortly after half term, the Humanities faculty arranged for our 50 year 10 geographers to take a visit to the seaside at Walton on the Naze.

The purpose of the trip was for students to be able to see first-hand the landscape they had been studying as part of their GCSE geography topic on coasts, and consider the different ways that people have tried to manage the issue of erosion and flooding.

During the day, students carried out a variety of fieldwork techniques which allowed them to conduct an investigation into how successful the local coastal management strategies had been.

We were extremely impressed with the mature attitude students adopted in completing this work, and they all returned to school with a wealth of data allowing them to write up their final fieldwork reports. This will provide a fantastic foundation for the demands of their paper 3 next summer when they eventually come to sit their GCSE exams.

Of course, it wouldn't have been a day at the seaside without an opportunity to have an ice-cream and some fun on the beach and we had plenty of time for this also thanks to the fantastic work ethic of our students.
