LBWF Community Safety Plan

Message from the Waltham Forest Community Safety Team

As we approach the seasonal festivities of Halloween and Bonfire Night, we are mindful of the annual rise in community safety concerns that often accompany this period.

To that end, we have developed a comprehensive and collaborative plan designed to support our communities and mitigate potential issues. This plan has been shaped in partnership with key stakeholders and will be rolled out over a three-week period to ensure maximum impact and relevance to the celebrations. The attached Dates of Activities outlines the initiatives we will be delivering, which include:

  • Gate Presence - Led by Violence Reduction Co-ordinators (VRC) and Dedicated Ward Officers (DWO), there will be a visible and approachable presence at key locations.
  • StreetBase Peer Patrols - The StreetBase Team will be active in the community, offering peer-led support and monitoring.
  • Pop-Up Safety Hubs Outside Colleges - Delivered jointly by the Community Safety Team (CST), VRCs, and Voluntary & Community Sector (VCS) partners, these hubs will provide resources and guidance to students and staff.
  • Targeted Joint Patrols - Coordinated efforts between VRCs, Police, and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) teams will focus on areas of concern to ensure swift response and reassurance.

We appreciate your continued support and collaboration in keeping our communities safe and informed. Should you have any questions or wish to contribute to any of the planned activities, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Could you be a Parent/Carer Champion?

We’re currently looking for passionate, friendly, and committed parents to become Parent/Carer Champions with the parenting programmes team in Waltham Forest.

Parent/Carer Champions are volunteers who use their own lived experience of parenting to support and encourage other local families. They play a key role in building connections across our community, helping parents to access services, feel less isolated, and know they’re not alone in the challenges of family life.

What does a Parent/Carer Champion do?

  • Share information about local services, courses, and support available for families
  • Chat with other parents in your community—formally or informally
  • Use your experience to inspire and empower others
  • Help shape how services are delivered by feeding back what matters to families.

What we offer:

  • Full training and ongoing support
  • Flexible volunteering to fit around your schedule
  • The chance to meet new people, build confidence, and make a difference
  • Opportunities for personal development, references and progression

Please get in touch using the information on the attached flyer or pass this on to someone who might be interested.

Best wishes
