I wanted to share an exciting opportunity for young people across Waltham Forest through Stage4Change, a free youth theatre programme that I founded alongside my previous role as a Social Worker and current role as a Functional Family Therapist. This term we have very excitingly been offered the opportunity to perform at Soho theatre in Walthamstow this Christmas and we are looking for more young people to take part!

Stage4Change was created to provide creative opportunities for young people supported by Children's Social Care and Early Help services. Through theatre, storytelling, and performance, the project aims to build confidence, develop communication skills, encourage positive peer relationships, and give young people a platform to express themselves in a supportive environment.

We are currently recruiting young people aged 11-18 to join us as we work towards our performance, Our Voice, at Soho Theatre Walthamstow on 10 December.

This is a genuinely unique opportunity for young people to collaborate with a nationally recognised theatre organisation and perform in one of Waltham Forest's most significant new cultural venues! Access to professional theatre spaces and creative industries can often feel out of reach for many of the young people we support, making this a rare and valuable opportunity to be part of something special.

Young people will:

• Create their own scenes and monologues
• Develop confidence, communication and teamwork skills
• Build positive peer relationships
• Explore creativity and self-expression
• Perform on a professional stage at Soho Theatre Walthamstow

No previous theatre experience is required, and all sessions are completely free.

Tickets for Our Voice will be going on sale soon, and it would be wonderful to see colleagues from Children's Social Care, Early Help, Family Support and wider services in the audience. The show will be a celebration of the creativity, commitment, and talent of the young people involved, and I know their confidence would be hugely boosted by seeing professionals who have supported them come along and cheer them on.

This is a quick update from Waltham Forest Parent Forum and details of some of the support, activities and opportunities we have available for SEND families this term. We’ve attached a sheet with more information.

Help families join the Parent Forum

Waltham Forest Parent Forum is the independent voice of parents and carers of children and young people with SEND aged 0–25 in Waltham Forest.

We now have over 3,300 members and work with families, schools, the Local Authority, health services and other partners to make sure parent carer experiences help shape SEND services locally.

We’d really appreciate schools helping us reach families who may not yet know about us. Membership is free and families do not need to have an EHCP or a formal diagnosis to join.

We are looking for a French-speaking volunteer to support our GCSE French students as they prepare for their upcoming exams. The role would involve spending some time each week helping students practise their spoken French in a positive and supportive environment.
